Photographer Jessy Yu

The road for Jessy Yu to becoming a professional photographer is not quite ordinary. Even though shooting a manual camera for over 15 years and having great passion for taking photos sounds cliche, Jessy Yu actually started her professional career as an assistant professor after getting her Ph.D. in Mass communications and M.A. in advertising. Even though she enjoyed teaching college students majored in advertising courses like Advertising Campaign, Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior and Attitude Change, she knew she was missing out on her creative passion. The story finally began when she took some time off to be a "mom". She found herself behind the camera documenting the journey of her life with her family. She finally realized that her passion for photography is all about embracing every single living moment, capturing those moments with her eyes through the help of a camera, and then reliving those moments time and time again.

It has been a long journey. Now she feels that she finally understands why God has guided her through her walk in theatre, journalism, advertising, and finally through motherhood. This is a profession in which she could freely immerse herself in capturing people's embracements of life with her artistic eyes. She always says "With weddings and babies, I am constantly immersed in love and joy! What other profession offers this kind of blessing?"

Style & Session

Each session is tailor-designed for each client. Jessy strives to create something that tells the unique story of her individual client through her artistic eyes and her easy-going personality. When working with Jessy, she doens't have a set of rules for photographing families. It could be in studio or on location, black and white or color, in a park or at home. It really depends on what the client is looking for. She enjoys the challenges of various lights and settings available on locations, but also enjoys the precious controls she can have with studio settings to create something different for clients.

Each session takes somewhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours. There actually is not any set time limit. Jessy spends whatever time it takes to ensure she captured what she envisions for the client. The images will be ready on an online gallery for private viewing about 2 weeks after the photo session. Clients are welcome to share these photos with family and friends.

You've done it again! Beautiful photos! thanks --- Tina J.

We had our family portraits taken with Jessy and working with her was wonderful! She was engaging and fun and effortlessly eased our (then 2-year old son) to smile and be himself in front of the camera. Although it was a formal studio portraiture, Jessy was interested in capturing the essence of what made us a unique family and easily captured those quiet moments that told our story. Jessy’s keen eye for camera angles and her sense for photojournalistic portraiture really brought forth something special. The photographs were varied and aesthetically exquisite. We were very pleased with Jessy’s work and have recommended her to family and friends many times over! --- Hannah C.
